Alpine Adventure Day 22 - Returning to Val d'Anniviers

Sitting here writing this evening my overwhelming feeling is one of gratitude. Not only because of the way our journey to Val d'Anniviers from the Chamonix valley went so smoothly with train and bus connections coming seamlessly together, or the way the train times allowed us to make a swift visit to Argentiere to find some last minute essentials before we left, or the fact all of those essentials were available at great prices. Sure, all of these contributed to a great day. But the main part of the day I am grateful for is the wonderful apartment I am now sitting in.

It is over 2 years ago since we met Shirley and Robin completely by chance on a walk above Grimentz and they then invited us into their lovely apartment to shelter from the rain.  Back then we were grateful to them as they explained more about the area, told us about the Liberte Pass and ultimately led to us enjoying 3 wonderful weeks in the valley back in 2014. Yet I never really expected at the time we'd be guests ourselves in their holiday apartment. After all, we had a motorhome for the summer and weren't keen skiiers.

But arriving here today in need of a stable base for a few days and in a place we know we love, we have really been taken aback at the level of care and attention to detail that Shirley and Robin have put into creating this wonderful, pristine holiday apartment. From the furnishings, the wall art, the amenities, the games, the books, the multitude of plug adapters, the multilingual information...even the linen bag including soap, dishwasher tablets and toilet paper labeled clearly. They have put in so much time, effort and energy into creating a welcoming and luxurious environment that we really have been overwhelmed. Not to mention the 2 balconies, Alpine views and the fact I could easily throw a stone from one balcony to the cable car across the road. A cable car I can use for free by the way as part of the apartment along with dozens of other local facilities. (For information on how to book visit: www.GrimentzSwitzerland.co.uk)

Of course I'll be writing more about our time here as the days go by, but in short it feels good to be back in Val d'Anniviers almost 2 years after we were last here. We did plan to do a few things today but since arriving mid afternoon we've mostly napped, had dinner and read some books. Now, time for a bath and off to that big comfy bed I hear calling my name.
