Walking Through Paradise - Day 4 Photo Diary - Off Plan

Day four of our journey through Western Europe's largest nature reserve once again began in a dense mist that suggested we had another cold day in store. Fortunately, we were wrong.

As the clouds slowly rose and they unveiled a stunning world of crags and glaciers, we made a decision. Deviating from the Tour of the Vanoise that we'd initially resolved to follow, we pursued a variant route along the long Vallon de la Rocheure towards the Refuge de la Femme where we arrived at the end of long trek to be greeted by a beautiful donkey. With a sub-zero night in store, we were never more grateful for the warmth of these charming and remote refuges.

Walking Through Paradise - Day 3 Photo Diary - Mist

The third day of our fifteen day odyssey exploring Western Europe's largest nature reserve started in a dense mist. As temperatures dropped and the rain began, we emerged from the fog to find a damp but beautiful mountainside.

We spent the night outside of Refuge de l'Arpont, tired after 6 hours and 18 kilometres of walking through the mist, but once more surrounded by passing friends and a delightfully warm log burner, transforming what could have been a challenging evening of survival and shivering.

Walking Through Paradise - Day 2 Photo Diary - People

The second day of our epic journey through Western Europe's largest nature reserve had us walking for five hours along the Tour de Vanoise, taking us high above valley floor the across the 2287 metres Col du Barbier.

After a magnificent day of sweeping views and wild blueberries picked from beside the trail, we spent the evening with new friends at the Refuge de Plan Sec.
