Cycling From San Jose to La Fabriquilla - Flamingoes, El Cabo de Gata and Las Salinas

Cycling along the narrow spit of land that separates the Las Salinas salt flats from the Mediterranean sea from El Cabo de Gata to La Fabriquilla beneath a blue sky it just felt great to be back on our bikes again. This was our first cycle since our trip up the Gorges de la Meouge some 3 months earlier. Lucky then that with friends wild camping in their motorhome at La Fabriquilla, close to the iconic Faro Cabo de Gata, we had  the perfect reason to cycle out to meet them....and with the waves lapping just a few metres from our tyres we felt very grateful.


Although the previous year we had taken our hybrid bikes over the rocky path that separates San Jose from Faro Cabo de Gata, with our road bikes we had to travel their and back on the inland, road route of around 25 km or so. But with such gentle gradients and relatively quiet roads it had been a pleasant ride, even when travelling through the fields of plastic grow tents we had to pass. All in all it took around 2 and a half hours of cycling there and back. Here are a few pictures of the ride.
